The 54th Annual Crocker Ball
The Crocker Ball is an annually held social and fundraising event hosted by the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California. I was lucky enough to attend the 54th annual Crocker Ball this year on December 3. Having attended the ball in past years, I am keenly aware of what a magnificent job the museum does in putting on the event. This year, of course, was no different in magnificence. The Scottish theme, the great people, and the beautiful artwork made the experience delightful in every sense of the word.
This year, the ball was a Scottish theme. The event begins in the old Crocker building, which opened as the first public art museum in 1885, and still holds some exquisite pieces. Being a lover of art in all forms, it is always fun for me to be able to attend events where everyone takes part in celebrating such an extraordinary part of life. While in the old building, guests were given access to champagne, cocktails, and a vodka and caviar bar. We were then led into the new Crocker museum building to be seated for dinner. In line with the Scottish theme of the evening, tables were decorated with forest green tablecloths, plaid napkins, and floral arrangements consisting of deep red roses and evergreen branches. Chandeliers were brought in and ‘Crocker Ball’ was lit up in a beautiful script on the wall, making the event flawless. Dinner consisted of a delicious four-course meal with perfect wine pairings. During the meal, an auction takes place. The proceeds of the auction go to programs put on by the museum to help people connect with art in all different ways. Many beautiful art pieces were auctioned off, including a special visit to Fred Leighton in New York City. All in all, Crocker never fails at putting on an elegant event, keeping in mind the importance of art and the need to connect people to it.
The ball is a black-tie event, giving me more than enough reason to have fun putting together the perfect ensemble. I decided on my favorite blue and intricately detailed Gucci dress, a pair of fabulous Valentino shoes, vintage earrings from Greece, and some feminine pink lipstick to top it off.
